As a nation created by immigrants for immigrants this is ridiculous,
not to mention anti-american.

I think you are forgetting that these aren't legal immigrants. Our country was founded on the principles of legalized immigration. If you or I were to break laws we would expect to be punished. If you were to sneak into Mexico and get caught you would be put in a Mexican jail for God knows how long. So please don't try and act like illegal immigration can be compared to legal immigration. because they are 180 degrees different.

Jon,
An interesting point! However you seem to be oblivious of the economic realities facing USA today. Without the illegal migrants from Latin America, who contribute a large % of the labour employed (especially in the agricultural sector) a lot of American businesses and farmers would go bankrupt rather quickly.
Also, there is a misconception that immigrants take away jobs from the locals. To illustrate this point, I'd like to bring to your notice that more than 25% of all (venture capital funded) start ups in USA have been founded by immigrants from India, who comprise less than 1% of the population in USA. These start ups are mostly in the hi-tech sector and besides their contribution to the economy in terms of GDP and taxes - they CREATE jobs for locals.
Moving further, going by current demographic trends, if it was not for immigration (illegal & legal) the US would face an economic crises caused by a rapidly ageing population - something that many European Union countries are facing today (alleviated somewhat by the inclusion of Eastern European nations in the EU).
You need to go back to your books and maybe read up a bit more on economics...
Cheers!
Abhijeet

Abhijeet, If you insist that we take economics, which we have, you need to take logic and learn to stay relavent to Jon's topic. You show that you know so little about the complexity of the US laws, selective enforcement, that made it attractive to hire cheap labor and the lack of protectionism that brought down the competitive rates in so many markets. That we are ageing is relative as we live longer and stay potentually productive longer. There is plenty of labor in the US not to require illegals and the excessive child labor laws of CA has made couch potatos of our young. Cheap labor and cheap prices just both pressure the middle class to work two jobs and at the same time support the desire for instant gratification through toys and entertainment. 50% of the public school students in most San Diego County schools are illegals and that is one of several huge drains on our taxes. Health care and welfare are other giant and obvious costs...those taxes reinvested would far out weigh even your Indian investments. The Latin illegals suck up jobs, don't pay taxes and send their earnings across the border, all with the help of greedy US citizens. If we just punished the greedy and deported (kept out) the invaders, this would be a far better and moral place. Your arguement is easily flushed down the toilet. Oh and by the way much of the agriculture is automated now anyway. Grow your own tomatos, lazy liberal b......

And another thing...most of the farming families were bought out by the corporations long ago...what do you know that hasn't been fed to you by some liberal professor or media mogul? Failure to follow the rule of basic economics, put aside by the undisciplined and greedy, is what caused the housing loan crisis. Our original laws, before the bleeding hearts decide everything should be free and easy, kept us on a true path. Something for nothing is never true and the more you give our taxes away the more our economy pays. There is your economics class. One of the things I like about Indians is they work hard and stay focused. When did you sellout to...or since you are not an American citizen of any of the American countries maybe you just like to see the US brought down a notch? "Cheers" to our demise you mean?
